
Sitara Achakzai, an Afghani politician who pursued basic human rights for women in Afghanistan, was killed by two Taliban gunmen as she traveled to a provincial meeting in Kandahar.
Achakzai, who traveled by rickshaw to appear less conspicuous, returned to Afghanistan after living in exile in Germany during the rule of the Taliban.
Sitara Achakzai was attacked by two gunmen as she arrived at her home in a rickshaw – a vehicle colleagues said she deliberately chose to use to avoid attracting attention.
There have been many other attacks on women in the province, including the assassination in 2006 of Safia Amajan, the head of the province’s women’s affairs department. Read more on: The Guardian
